Preparation is key

The more you prepare, the faster and smoother it will all go. Also, know that this is a construction project, so there will be loud noises and could be strong odors.

Ask a lot of questions as to who does what, such as moving furniture and disposing of the old material. Should baseboards and moldings be removed and, if so, who does it?

Find out who is responsible for any subfloor repairs. Usually, but not always, the installers will automatically do it; you may need to negotiate this as part of the installation. Also, do the installers want you to examine it first and then let them know if repairs are necessary? If so, the carpet was probably installed with a tack strip; pull up the old rug with pliers. Cut it into strips and roll it to dispose of it.

Decide on alternative plans for cooking, showering, securing pets, and creating easy access for important, frequently used items and documents. Vacuum thoroughly and, if possible, open the windows to eliminate airborne dust. Find out how long it will be for you to be able to move furniture back in and walk on the floor.

And as always, we are here for you. If you have any questions at all about the information provided don?t hesitate to give us a call! We?ll help you handle the process from start to finish.

Paint before or after?

Are you remodeling the entire room? Some like to paint first to keep spills off the new rug. Most people, however, prefer to install the rug first because the crew will be coming in with big rolls and tools. Installation can also create dust.

They want to prevent the newly painted wall from getting scratches and dings. Cover the rug thoroughly with painters plastic and tarp and tuck it as much as possible under the edges.
